O-Ringe sind endlose runde Dichtringe mit kreisförmigem Querschnitt. Sie werden durch Vulkanisierformen als kompletter Ring hergestellt,FPM O-Ringe sind für höhere Temperaturen geeignet.

Die Dichtungsfunktion des O-Rings wird durch die Verformung des Querschnitts beim Einbau ins Gehäuse und anschließender Kompression erreicht. Der O-Ring kann in seinem Einbaugehäuse radial oder axial zusammengedrückt werden.
